How we help
Our organization is involved within numerous projects in the community
Community
A lot of families tend to hide their children’s shortcomings because they are confused, or feel responsible for the disorder, or they are just too overwhelmed with the additional care and attention required and it’s not clear where to start, what questions to ask, or how to best support their kids.
Services
Parents need respite and siblings need to enjoy their childhood, not take on a caregiver role, and every child needs to process their emotions as well as achieve their own individualized pace. The intention is to expose our families to all the resources available, and do this on an individualized basis with each official registered family, and we strive to do this for any family who has a need.
Events
We have hosted many successful community events including our popular “Sensory Festivals” as a summertime celebration for embracing Inclusion and Autism Acceptance. In these events, weʻve coalesced many small businesses to be involved, while also gathering 40-60 volunteers from the community and hosting 15-25 different sensory activities ranging from a bubble station, to a lei making station, a ball pit, painting activities, water play among other things.
We look forward to supporting our community by continuing to provide fun-filled sensory friendly experiences that everyone enjoys.
Leadership
We have grown immensely in the past year and we have a strong commitment to growing sustainably and organically through engagement. Our motto is WE are Special Needs, and we strive to support the whole family as such through additional therapies, respite, and support groups so that families may thrive in their home. In addition, we look to create awareness and acceptance for Autism in our community so that families can understand better their child’s disability prior to or upon diagnosis, while also increasing Engagement and Community with Aloha.
Training
Our goal is to recruit promising candidates and to attract and guide them through a career path with ABA therapies as an entry-level RBT. We also sponsor respite packages as funding is available, which are a collection of therapies and services ranging from a special needs swim lesson, to horse therapy, to speech therapy, to music therapy, to ABA services, and even to a complimentary babysitting session with a qualified nanny as well as a complimentary housekeeping service.
Acceptance
Acceptance with local businesses, establishing sensory-friendly settings such as movies where they turn down the volume, turn up the lights, and establish an understanding that our special needs attendees can get a bit loud and be inattentive and may disrupt an audience. Think of it like the “Kupuna hour” we established during the pandemic for high risk individuals, where crowds were controlled and settings and safety parameters were set for our sensitive loved ones. It helps our special needs community to feel included and accepted, and encourages them to avoid hiding and isolation.
