We are in search of members of the autism community in Hawaii to serve on a steering committee that will provide guidance regarding the advancement of House Concurrent Resolution 139/145, which called for the Department of Education, Department of Health, and other relevant stakeholders to collaborate and develop a strategic plan to prepare for Hawaii’s pursuit of funding for, and participation in, public health surveillance for estimating autism prevalence in the State.

Our objective is to recruit a committee comprising persons with diverse perspectives, including autistic individuals, family members and caregivers, educators, medical and other allied health professionals, legislators, not-for-profit leaders, and other members of the community with a vested interest in this effort across the islands. Members of the steering committee will be asked to commit to attending monthly meetings that are tentatively scheduled to be held via videoconference on the third Wednesday of each month from 9-10 HST for the next 5 months (January 21, February 18, March 18, April 15, May 20) and to offer input regarding numerous key issues from the scope of surveillance to funding mechanisms to potential impact and desired outcomes of the prevalence monitoring effort.

Please complete the brief survey at the link below to nominate yourself or anyone else who you feel would be a good candidate to serve in this capacity by Wednesday, December 31st, 2025. Members of the committee will be selected and notified by Wednesday, January 14th, 2026.
